Here is a quick BIO on VANN who is recording “Sometimes You Gotta Fight (Song for Callie)” for the SONGS CURE CANCER initiative. A side note, we played in I.C. RED together for 6 years, and shared the stage together hundreds of times. There is no other person I would choose ahead of him to head on stage with…he is the best.
VANN is an award-winning Canadian songwriter, producer and recording artist.
Mixed with producer/engineer Paul Northfield (Hole, Marilyn Manson, Rush), VANN’s album “Ripping Into Bliss” is an energetic collection of memorable rock-pop tracks that are “infinitely more reminiscent of California than Canadiana”. Chronicling VANN’s journey from Canada to Mexico (where he lived for a year and wrote many of the tracks), the album includes two Canadian Top 40 singles (Buzz Killer and Cherish Your Youth). His third release, Obvious, made him one of the Top 3 Most Added Canadian Artists on radio in Canada. Produced and written by VANN, the album “seamlessly blends diverse influences to create pop-rock with layers and substance under the surface of some seriously catchy melodies”.
VANN has written and produced hit songs for EMI Music, Universal and BMG-SONY, among others and his accolades include a Platinum Sales Award (BMG Canada), Gold Sales Award (BMG Belgium), Breakthrough Single of the Year, Best New Artist Single (TMF Video Awards in Europe) and nominations for Best New Solo Rock Artist and Best Solo Artist Adult Contemporary Song at the Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards.
VANN’s hit single “Breathing Room” was the foundation for a highly successful national advertising campaign in Belgium. It included a chart-topping video (#2 Belgian Top 20 National) that was filmed in South Africa. Music brought VANN back to Africa two years later for an exclusive acoustic tour with European rock sensation Novastar. Between performances in Zimbawe and Zambia, VANN was filmed by media while bungie jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge (equivalent to a 35-story building).
As a songwriter, VANN has written for Canadian Idol, Belgium Idol and a variety of rock, pop and hip-hop artists. He was among an exclusive group of 30 songwriters invited by BMG to a 6-day Songwriters Camp to write all the songs for the debut Canadian Idol album and co wrote the album track Nothing Left to Say. Other invited writers included Randy Bachman (The Guess Who), Alex Greggs (Christina Aguilara, Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child, Michael Jackson), Franciz & LePont (Backstreet Boys), Jess Cates (The Jonas Brothers, LeAnn Rimes, Jordan Sparks, Clay Aiken), David Tyson (Joe Cocker, Amanda Myles, Amanda Marshall), Vince Degeorgio (NSYNC), Jully Black and Dan Hill. VANN was also flown by BMG Publishing in Europe to represent Canada in an 8-day International Writers Conference in a castle in Maloya, Switzerland to work with top selling artists and songwriters. Proceeds of his work went to benefit Doctors without Borders.
